Salvador Sobral lived in the United States, Mallorca, and Barcelona, where he studied Jazz at the prestigious Taller de Músics school. His career, marked by curiosity and the pursuit of a unique musical identity, led him from the jazz scene to global recognition in 2017. That year, he won the Eurovision Song Contest with “Amar pelos Dois,” a song written by his sister Luísa Sobral, achieving the highest score in the contest’s history. In 2018, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Portuguese Republic.

Following the success of his solo albums Excuse Me (2016), Paris, Lisboa (2019), and bpm (2021), which was nominated for a Latin Grammy, Salvador solidified his presence in Brazil in 2023 with the tour for his fourth studio album, TIMBRE. In 2024, he made history by becoming the first Portuguese artist to perform at the Goya Awards ceremony in Spain. The year 2025 was marked by the release of the collaborative album SÍLVIA & SALVADOR, with Catalan singer Sílvia Pérez Cruz, followed by an international tour that sold out venues across Europe, Latin America, and Japan.

As one of the most prominent names of the new generation of Portuguese music, Salvador Sobral is currently preparing the release of his fifth studio album, scheduled for the second half of 2026. Titled A Flor do Recomeço (The Flower of New Beginnings), the project deepens his long-standing connection to Brazilian music. “I am absolutely convinced that music was born in Brazil,” states the singer, who grew up listening to Maria Bethânia in his mother’s car and Chico César in his father’s car — melodies that marked his childhood and largely shaped his identity as a performer.

The new album — whose title comes from a poem by Potiguar writer Eveline Sin, set to music by Chico César — stems from the need to visit the “origin of all things,” seeking timeless sounds without ever falling into caricature. The concept is based on an album of unreleased songs by Brazilian composers, performed by Brazilian musicians, and sung by a Portuguese artist. The repertoire includes new tracks written by undeniable names such as Adriana Calcanhotto, Arnaldo Antunes, Céu, Marcelo Camelo, Mallu Magalhães, Marcos Valle, and Tim Bernardes. The project is produced by Marcus Preto (artistic director for historical figures like Gal Costa and Erasmo Carlos) and Tó Brandileone (member of the 5 a Seco collective and Latin Grammy winner).

The album also features two distinguished guest artists in special duets: Ney Matogrosso, a living legend and one of the most transgressive, performative, and visceral figures in the history of Brazilian popular music. Owner of an unmistakable countertenor voice, Ney is a beacon of artistic freedom. Also joining is Dora Morelenbaum, one of the most striking voices of the new generation of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) and a member of the acclaimed quartet Bala Desejo, with whom she won the Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Pop Album in Portuguese Language in 2022.
